Semester 1 Portfolio - Concept Perspectives 2

I think this was my best and most successful work of art done this semester, and that's why I chose to showcase this last. You can see how this drawing started and how it finished... right from beginning to end. This was done entirely with soft pastels on A3 paper. You can see how I used the structure literally as a building block to help in creating the final drawing (see the 4th image). The colour correction was done in Photoshop.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Concept Perspectives 1

The concept perspectives turned out to be amazing! I really enjoyed these because I was able to create my own imaginary world. I took the first drawing and used it as a building block for the final version of the drawing. As you can see in the second picture, the first drawing was a huge help because it helped me draw over and through the structure to create my city. The final drawing is done in soft pastels and the colour correction was done in Photoshop.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Concept Art 2

I really enjoyed drawing these because I was able to use my imagination without any boundaries.
Now the first drawing "Self Control" is based on some of Tiago Hoisel's digital paintings. I was very much inspired by his amazing art work and some of the things he creates are just plain weird but interesting nonetheless. The "Weeping Widow Tree" was something I did last minute but I think it turned out quite well. These are both drawn with colour pencils.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Concept Art 1

This was quite fun to draw, combining the anatomy of 3 different animals into 1 (cheetah body, eagle wings and scorpion tail). The tail and the skull are slightly modified just to give it a more unique look.
I might draw another version of how this creature looks with its flesh and skin on in the future...

Semester 1 Portfolio - Perspectives

This is a collection of 1, 2 and 3 point perspective drawings (done in September 2011), some with reference others without reference. I first drew these in pencil and then drew over the main lines in colour pencil (keeping in mind that warmer colours are closer and cooler colours are farther).
*These are all pictures of the original drawings.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Shading

The first 2 exercises are from Aditya Chari's book on Figure Drawing. The final drawing was first a rapid contour, then I shaded over it to create a sense of form. It is also taken from Aditya Chari's book, drawn in pencil.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Colour Theory

Pretty much self-explanatory. For the warm colour study there was no reference used, but for the cool colour study I used a picture from National Geographic. The warm colours are done with pencil crayon while the cool colours are done with soft pastels.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Contours

So this time the contour drawings are slightly different (because these were drawn with pencil on A4 paper as opposed to conte/charcoal on newsprint paper).
I first drew some roughs (5 and 10 minutes) and then once I understood the figure and proportions fully, I drew a final contour drawing (20 minutes).

Semester 1 Portfolio - Gestures

*All gestures were drawing from high quality reference pictures.
Yes, the gestures from before are much more detailed, but they lack a sense of structure.
The second set of gestures are very simple and lack detail, but they contain important information such as joints, line of action, and structure.

Semester 1 Portfolio - Anatomy Studies 2

Here are a few anatomy studies of the hands and feet. Some reference from Burne Hogarth's books was taken, and all line drawings are drawn from high quality reference pictures.

Semester 1 Portfolio

First of all, here's wishing you all a (belated) Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!
I have been so busy with internals, finals and the Bangalore International Film Festival (which was a lot of fun!). Now that my schedule is a little less hectic I have some time to update, so here is my Semester 1 Portfolio from Manipal University Bangalore Campus.

*NOTE: The Still Life Drawings from the previous posts are also part of my portfolio.

Comments and feedback are always appreciated!
Enjoy! :)
